Spring has begun!

The month of April begins (as is often the case) with April 1. And we couldn’t resist doing something with that. You may have noticed that in our faculty room photographs of all social and behavioral science professors hang on the walls, including most of the faculty board. However, at our April 2 meeting in the faculty room, they found not their own picture, but one of a a cat in a suit. Fortunately, they could appreciate the joke!

But in addition to joking, there is serious work to be done. For example, at the last meeting we discussed bringing forward the change in the language of instruction for Edcational Sciences’ master’s program, setting up the faculty appointments committee and a new format for the strategic staffing plan. By advancing the language change, along with the curriculum revision, Educational Sciences hopes to make their master’s program more appealing to students a year earlier, for example, students from our bachelors who previously opted out of the program because it was too similar to the bachelor’s in Educational Sciences or because they found English too high a barrier. For students, the new faculty appointments committee and the strategic personnel plan may feel remote from our concerns, but it is important that the promotion of faculty and consideration of faculty turnover be done properly and carefully, also so that our teaching remains well organized! This is how we keep the valuable knowledge in university that we as students can learn from.

But most of all, we have been busy recently with our successors! Because although our year is not over yet, it will not be long before we will hand over the baton. But who will be in the FR is not up to us, that is up to you, the students of our faculty! This year we have 2 lists: list VUUR (Verenigde Utrechtse Universiteitsraden (United Utrecht University Councils)) and list SVSV (Studenten voor Sociologische Vooruitgang (Students for Sociological Progress)). In total there are 8 candidates on the lists and that means: elections! The elections are from May 13 to 15. Be sure to check if you are registered to vote and put May 13, 14 and 15 in your calendar!

In any case, we are confident that our successors will do a great job!

Dear jokegreetings,

Britt, Lynn, Maartje, Mel, Ming, Rik and Ylana
